25 Days - Dec 2 - A World of Delights no. 2

ABOUT THIS YEAR'S COLLECTION:
In 2022, I listened to a podcast with Ross Gay about his book The Book of Delights. I listened to the podcast 3 times in a row. It was in his words that I found meaning in my own life - in my heart - and started to more fully understand how I see the world. (This knowing probably started with Tiny Victories after Covid - see my Blog about finding the smallest of joys in the tiniest of acts, allowing them to build momentum towards good.) It was while in conversation with my collectors and followers, that I realized this perspective I have on life.
I am not, by any means, an optimist. (I prefer realist!) But I do delight easily. And the more I read and listen to Ross I think it is a muscle that can be toned. I often think of life as a poem or a short film, watching as the world presents herself to me. It is tragic. It is beautiful. It is every single thing in between. Maybe it is self preservation to turn on my delight goggles (these are not the same as rose-colored glasses.) They help me to notice the delights, mentally record them, and be able to laugh or stand in awe, even if for just one second.
All year, I have been creating work that embodies this ethos, finding a glimmer of hope, of delight, of joy in the moment. Each piece in this 25 Days collection are my delights - a flower, a breeze, the midday sun, the spot I was in when I made them, the person I was texting while I washed the prints, the butterfly that landed while I was waiting for the exposure and the peace I feel when I sit down to paint.
Delight is everywhere if we stop to notice. May you find the delight in your life.
